From HK to US
In 2010, I was awarded the Fung Scholarship for my exchange program from Singapore Management University to the University of Mannheim in Germany. Little did I know that this opportunity would extend far beyond financial support — it would introduce me to a global network of scholars and professionals that I continue to cherish today.
Upon returning to Singapore, I discovered the 2010 Fung Scholars Leadership Conference in Hong Kong and applied to attend. That experience was a turning point. Meeting scholars from around the world and engaging with expert speakers curated by the Fung Foundation broadened my perspectives. Inspired by the experience, I started the Singapore chapter in 2011 to help more scholars connect with the opportunities within this network.
Over the years, the friendships I’ve built through the Fung Scholars network have lasted more than a decade. Whether traveling to a new country or expanding my circle in Singapore, I’ve always found like-minded individuals through this community. Conversations with Fung Scholars working across different sectors—from finance to the social sector—continue to inspire me and enrich my worldview. One memorable connection even led to a friendship with a scholar who runs an antique shop, from whom I’ve acquired pieces that now decorate my home.
Beyond friendships, I deeply appreciate the opportunities the Fung Foundation provides to learn from leading experts and fellow scholars on critical global issues. The annual conferences consistently explore timely and relevant themes shaped by current global developments, such as AI, geopolitics, and global trade, keeping me informed even as a working professional.
Even today, I continue to attend these conferences whenever possible. The content remains relevant, but more importantly, it is the lifelong friendships and diverse perspectives that make the Fung Scholars network truly special.
