About the Event

10 Fung Scholars from Shanghai and Nanjing Chapter joined the 2015 Shanghai ONE EGG WALKATHON on 16 May 2015. This is the second time for the Fung Scholars to particiate the event. It was a beautiful day for the Fung Scholars to complete the 50km walkathon in Fengjing, Shanghai.  The Walkathon is a charity event held by Shanghai United Foundation, aiming to provide rural children with one egg every day and to fund more high-quality charity projects. It was a great time for the Fung Scholars to exercise and take a break from their busy lives. They all had a joyful and rewarding Saturday.

Reflections of the participants

LIN Yuyuan (FS2013-14, Fudan University)

One Egg Walkathon is a charity event aiming for collecting funds for children living under poverty. The rule is that if the participants finished the 50 km walkathon within 13 hours on May 16, 2015, their friends will then donate money as promised to help the children each get the daily egg. Before this event, I have never imagined I could make it (coz sometimes I walked less than 50 km for the entire week). That’s one of the reasons why I really appreciated FS providing this opportunity for me to join the meaningful event. The walkathon challenged myself. I also got to know some outstanding people and doing good to society at the same time.

YAO Rui (FS2013-14, Nanjing University)

It was such a great opportunity to take part in the 50-km walking activity in Shanghai, Fengjing with Fung Scholars of Nanjing and Shanghai Chapter. I’ve never walked such a long distance ever before, so it was really a huge challenge to me. During the walkathon, we encouraged each other and broke through the physical limit and finally we all reached the finish line within 12 hours. Moreover, we made good friends with each other during this cheerful and joyful journey. I’m truly looking forward to gathering again in Shanghai with the Fung Scholars in the near future.

SHEN Shuyi (FS2013-14, Shanghai Jiao Tong University)

It was a great experience to participate in the ‘eggs for kids’ walkathon.

Together with other 9 Fung Scholars from Nanjing and Shanghai, I finished the 50km walkathon. It was the longest distance I had ever walked through at a time and it was really a challenge for my physical body and stamina. Thanks to all the encouragements from my teammates, Tammy and Victor and William Fung Foundation, we were able to complete the walkathon.

During the walkathon, Fung Scholars from both Nanjing and Shanghai established a deep bond with each other. We even celebrated the birthday of WANG Jing (FS2013-14, Nanjing University) together. It was really warm and sweet.

Personally I am so happy to participate in such a charity event. I hope the tradition could go on and more Fung Scholars could participate in the walkathon in the future.

Thanks again for the support from Tammy and Victor and William Fung Foundation.

WANG Junyi (FS2013-14, Nanjing University)

This was my second 50KM walkathon. Walking became much easier after a year’s exercise and training. But finishing the walkathon was far more than personal achievement. It was aimed for raising money for charity projects and it required teamwork. We are really grateful to all our friends who donated money to us and supported us during the whole 12-hour journey. It was also a perfect opportunity for Shanghai and Nanjing Fung Scholars to communicate and become good friends with each other. I believe our friendship could last for our whole life after this meaningful event.
