About the Event

Written by Ross CHEUNG (FS2008-09, Hong Kong Baptist University)

The Sharing Love with Community initiative was organised by the Hong Kong Chapter, which was held on 24 January 2016. This is the first time for some of the Fung Scholars who did not have a chance but have a will to share warmness with our community. Also, this is an echo to the Make A Difference Forum 2016 to make a change to the Fung Scholars Community and the greater Hong Kong society. We wanted to visit local homeless people and to deliver warmness under Hong Kong’s record low temperature for decades. We had a Fung Scholar that night to share the experiences from an excursion in Make A Difference Forum in visiting the same area and guiding us to the visit with local knowledge newly earned.

We spent about one and half hour (20:30 to 22:00) in Sham Shui Po mainly near the Tung Chau Street Temporary Market and Tung Chau Street Park. According to our observation, we have met about 30 some homeless people, and we tried to communicate with them to show our care. Also, we had distributed about 20 sets of snack and scarf.

Besides, we had purchased 76 meal vouchers from a local restaurant near the Tung Chau Street. We will distribute them to those in need very soon.
