We proudly announce that the Fung Scholars Team won the Second Runner-up in the Town Health 25th Anniversary Fearless Dragon Charity Run at Hong Kong Tolo Harbor on 8 June 2014. Congratulations to Carol CHAN Wai Sum (FS2010-11, Lingnan University), Gary FUNG Kwan Ho (FS2013-14, The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology), Hugh TONG (FS2009-10, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) and Pamela WONG Wing Yee (FS2013-14, The Chinese University of Hong Kong).
Reflections of the participants.
Carol CHAN Wai Sum (FS2010-11, Lingnan University) “I feel so excited that I have participated in Charity Run event. Running was never my favourite sport as I couldn’t put up with hot and it was boring. Every time I ran, I always gave up before finishing the route. It turned out that all I got from “running” was failure and harsh.
In recent months, I started to change myself, started by developing the habit of running. I wanted to transform the bad impression of running (I know it is healthy and good for me) even though I just ran for 30 minutes every week.
Indeed, there is something different after lasting the habits for 5 months– I wanted to challenge myself more in running. Meanwhile, there was a chance offered for FS to join Chartity Run (3km). I finally took it and finished it with my teammates!!! (Although I am the slowest one..haha) I am sure that I can’t do it without their support and acceptance. Surprisingly, we also get the 2nd runner-up in team competition!
It is definitely an unforgettable and amazing experience for me in life. If I didn’t step forward 5 months ago, or if I didn’t take the courage to challenge myself, I won’t get the present which is out of my expectation but has been prepared from my life.
Thanks to FS and our leader Hugh!”
Gary FUNG Kwan Ho (FS2013-14, The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology) “On June 8 I joined a charity run organised by the Town Health International Medical Group Limited to celebrate their 25th anniversary. First of all, I would also like to show my gratitude to the Victor and William Fung Foundation for their generous support in sponsoring us to join the race. 3 other Fung Scholars and I participated in the 3km run. The weather on that day was beautiful and we were happy to run in such a good condition. We supported each other throughout the run and, to our surprised, finished as the second-runner up! During the run I was impressed by the determination as well as the positive attitude of a number of physically challenged runners. It made the event more meaningful as it demonstrated only with a little help we can help them to achieve a lot. I hope this event can not only promote healthy lifestyle, but also raise the awareness of those in need.”
Hugh TONG (FS2009-10, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) “I particularly like this picture because it really shows our friendship, which just had built up on this event. I remembered that we have our first and only training three weeks ago and some of us even do not know each other’s looks like.
However, after the training and the race, we built up our friendship. My teammates were fantastic because they all looked after each other and that was sweet that we were waiting for our teammates before the finish banner. For me, I quite like this kind of event because it will be more fun, if you build up the friendship with sport. It seems more energetic and more passionate.
Last but not least, I would like to thank Victor and William Fung Foundation gave us sponsors and thanks for my lovely teammates gave me a lovely Sunday!”
Pamela WONG Wing Yee (FS2013-14, The Chinese University of Hong Kong) “Life is full of real challenges. One who takes and overcomes challenges wins. When it comes to running, it is a challenge of willpower and physique. To me, not only it is worth running for my mental and physical strength, it is also encouraging to achieve my target.
I am happy to meet friends who also love taking this challenge, and we finally made it in a hot and smoggy morning this early June. Special thanks to Fung Scholars Hong Kong Chapter, who fully supported our participation in Town Health 25th Fearless Dragon Charity Run, and I would definitely continue to show my support to Fung Scholars.”
