About the Event

Launched in 2008, the annual Fung Scholars Leadership Conference is a platform for the Fung Scholars and Fellows from different regions and years to connect with each other, exchange ideas and to learn from renowned speakers their experience and insights.

For the first time, this year’s Leadership Conference will be led by our Fung Scholars. On 30 Oct and 06 Nov, join us at our Zoom conference to hear from a panel of Fung Scholars speakers and exchange your views and opinions on different issues:

Concurrent Breakout Sessions
Participants will be grouped in the breakout sessions according to their indicated preference. In each breakout room, there will be Fung Scholars Discussion Leaders to coordinate the discussion. Sufficient time will allow everyone in the group to share their views and opinions. The Fung Scholar Group Representative will take record of the points and comments made in each breakout session for the group presentations that followed.
Group Presentations
Participants would reconvene in the Main Room after the breakout sessions. The Group Representative from each breakout room would be invited to give a 5-minute summary of the discussion taken place by providing a few key take-home messages. Other participants in each breakout room may supplement as time permits.

Dr. Victor K. Fung

Chairman, Victor and William Fung Foundation Group Chairman, Fung Group

Dr Victor Fung is Group Chairman of the Fung Group, a Hong Kong-based multinational group which comprises major operating groups engaging in trading, logistics, distribution and retailing including privately held Li & Fung Limited and publicly listed Convenience Retail Asia Limited. Dr. Fung played a leading role in driving the development of the supply chain infrastructure at Li & Fung Limited, which has enabled it to become the leading consumer goods design, development, sourcing, and logistics company for major retailers and brands around the world.

Dr. Fung is Chairman of the Asia Global Institute at the University of Hong Kong, a multi-disciplinary think-tank co-established with the Fung Global Institute to assume and carry forward the Fung Global Institute’s mission to generate and disseminate research and ideas on global issues from Asian perspectives. He is Chairman of the 2022 Foundation, a non-profit entity focused on research into Hong Kong’s long-term competitiveness and Chairman of the Victor and William Fung Foundation, whose focus is the nurturing of human capital and supporting educational programmes.

Dr. Fung is Chairman of the Civil Service Training Advisory Board, Chairman of the Global STEM Professorship Scheme Assessment Panel, a member of the Governance Committee of the Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of Hong Kong Monetary Authority and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance. He is a former Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (1991-2000), a Hong Kong representative on the APEC Business Advisory Council (1996-2003),Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (1999-2008), Chairman of the Council of The University of Hong Kong (2001-2009), Chairman of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council (2004-2013) and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (2014-2018).

He is also a member of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing, member of the Advisory Board of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, an Honorary Trustee of Peking University and an Honorary Professor of Renmin University. He is a former member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (2003-2018), Vice-Chairman of the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges (2009-2014).

Dr. Fung played a leadership role from 2007 in the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce, of which he was Chairman from 2008 to 2010. From 2012 to 2013, he was a member of the World Trade Organisation’s Panel On Defining The Future of Trade.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Fung holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After gaining his Doctorate in Business Economics from Harvard University, he taught as a professor at Harvard Business School before returning to the family business in Hong Kong in 1976.

Dr. Fung is married with three adult children.

Mr. Spencer Fung

Director, Victor and William Fung Foundation Group Executive Chairman, Li & Fung

Spencer Fung is Group Executive Chairman of Li & Fung. He is focused on leveraging the Company’s global network and uniting its ecosystem partners to drive transformation.
Prior to becoming Group Executive Chairman, Spencer was Group CEO from 2014 to 2020 and the architect of the company’s goal to create the supply chain of the future to help its customers navigate the digital economy and to improve the lives of a billion people in the supply chain.
Spencer is an independent non-executive director of Swire Properties Limited. He is also a member of the General Committee of The Hong Kong Exporters’ Association and on the Board of Trustees at Northeastern University. He has served on the Advisory Board of the British Fashion Council.
In January 2021, he was appointed Alternate Representative of Hong Kong to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University and Master of Science in Accounting and Master in Business Administration from Northeastern University in the US.

Ms. Barbara Meynert

Senior Advisor to the Fung Group, Member of the Executive Council of the UN ESCAP Sustainable Business Network

Business and thought leader Barbara Meynert has executive expertise across a broad range of sectors. She has enjoyed an international career in banking with such institutions as N.M. Rothschilds and Barclays Bank, commercial firm, and regulatory institutions including the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Airport Authority. She holds directorships in the corporate and non-profit sectors and is actively engaged in new digital technologies that are transforming the way we live, work and socialize.

Barbara Meynert is Senior Advisor to the Fung Group and a member of the Executive Council of the UN ESCAP Sustainable Business Network. She serves on the Hong Kong Cyberport Advisory Panel and the FinTech Advisory Council of the Astana International Financial Centre. She is Adjunct Professor at the University of Hong Kong, and Vice-Chair of the Hong Kong-Asean Economic Cooperation Foundation.

Ms. Pamela Mar

Managing Director, Digital Standards Initiative (DSI), International Chamber of Commerce

The DSI is a public private partnership backed by the ICC, Asian Development Bank, World Trade Organization and the Singapore government, dedicated to accelerating the digitalization of global trade as a key driver of growth, development and inclusion.

Prior to joining the DSI, Pamela was Executive Vice President for Supply Chain Futures, and then EVP for Knowledge and Applications for the Fung Group, a Hong Kong based multinational supply chain manager where she was also the first Group head of Sustainability. She was named one of Asia’s ten A-list sustainability leaders in 2019, and is a recognized industry leader in this area. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Pamela was based in Shenzhen as a Director of Global Finance for TCL Multimedia Technology, the first major Chinese company to go global by buying a foreign brand.

Prior to TCL, Pamela ran Greater China for the World Economic Forum, based in Geneva for five years. Pamela was born in New York and went to university in the USA, but has spent the majority of her life abroad, with stints in Bangkok, London, Geneva, Shenzhen, and now Hong Kong.

Dr. Lap-Chee TSUI

President, Victor and William Fung Foundation Founding President, The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences

Doctor Lap-Chee Tsui is the Founding President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences. He is also President of Victor and William Fung Foundation, Hong Kong, and Director of Qiushi Academy for Advanced Studies and Master of the Residential College of International Campus, Zhejiang University, China, and University of Toronto’s Emeritus University Professor. He is the 14th Vice Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong and, prior to which, he was Geneticist-in-Chief at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and University Professor at University of Toronto, Canada.

Doctor Tsui received his Bachelor and Master degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and his PhD from University of Pittsburgh in 1979. He is world renowned for his research work in human genetics and genomics, notably the identification of the gene for Cystic Fibrosis in 1989 and, later, other human genetic diseases while conducting a comprehensive characterization of human chromosome 7.

Doctor Tsui is the recipient of many national and international awards, including the 2019 Association of Chinese Geneticists in America Lifetime Achievement Award in Genetics and the 2018 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Royal Society of London and Academia Sinica. He is also an International Member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), a Foreign Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Laureate. His other awards include 16 honorary doctoral degrees from prestigious universities around the world, the Orders of Canada and Ontario and Knighthood of the Légion d’Honneur of France. Doctor Tsui was appointed Justice of the Peace in 2001, and was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star and the Grand Bauhinia Medal by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2011 and 2016 respectively.

Mr. Kai-man Wong

Director, Victor and William Fung Foundation

Mr. Kai-man Wong is a Director of Victor and William Fung Foundation; past Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission (2009-2015), Hong Kong; past Council Member of the Financial Reporting Council, Hong Kong (2014-2021); past Court and Council Member of The University of Hong Kong (2010-2017); Council Member of the City University of Hong Kong (2007-2012) and Lingnan University (1999-2006). He was an Honorary Associate Professor, School of Business, The University of Hong Kong (2005 – January 2018). He is a past and current Independent Non-Executive Director of five listed companies and a retail bank in Hong Kong. Mr Wong also serves on the boards of several non-governmental organisations and has served on government advisory committees and statutory bodies in the areas of land, immigration, energy, law-enforcement, education and technology.

Mr. Wong was an audit partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Hong Kong with 32 years of audit, Initial Public Offer, due diligence and computer audit experience in London and Hong Kong offices of PwC. He retired as a partner on 30 June 2005.

Mr. Wong obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physics from The University of Hong Kong and Master of Business Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, United Kingdom and a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Wong was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2002 and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2007 by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He was conferred an honorary fellow of the Lingnan University, Hong Kong in 2007, City University of Hong Kong in 2013 and The University of Hong Kong in 2016.
