About the Event

12 mainland, Hong Kong and Japanese Fung Scholars joined the Wan Chai and Blue House Tour on 7 May 2016. The tour was joined hands organised by a local Fung Scholar and an exchange Fung Scholar, Ross CHEUNG (FS2008-09, Hong Kong Baptist University) and Caroline LI (FS2015-06, Zhejiang University). The group explored Hong Kong and the local culture through St. James’ Settlement. In the tour, the participants learnt about the changing faces of Wan Chai and the impact of the changes of the district from a small fishing community to the Hong Kong’s second business district. They visited several historical sites, including Old Wan Chai Post Office, a colonial architecture which built in 1915 and now an environmental resource centre, Blue House, a Grade 1 Historic Building on Stone Nullah Lane, The Pawn, a Verandah type shophouse which built in early 20th century, etc. The tour helped the participants to learn more about the culture and history of Wan Chai and strengthened the bonding among the local and exchange Fung Scholars.
