Entrepreneurs – Our Hope for Economic Recovery. True?
The Fung Scholars Leadership Conference 2009 was held on 31 October 2009, Saturday, at Li & Fung Group’s Shanghai Office with the theme of “Entrepreneurs, our hope for economic recovery. True?” The Conference this year composed of two parts, the first part being the speeches delivered respectively by Mr. Po Chung, Co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of DHL, on the building of an international express and logistics industry giant, and Ms. Mary Ma, Partner and Managing Director of TPG Capital, Former CFO and Executive Director of Lenovo Group, on transforming a local company to a major player in the computer industry. The second part was an introduction of Li & Fung Group and a tour of its showroom.
Ms Michelle Chen of Singapore Management University (FS2008-09) and Ms Shirley Xie of Nanjing University (FS2008-09) were masters of ceremonies of the Conference. They shared with us how their exchange and cross culture experiences enhance their global perspective. Mr KM Wong, Director of Victor and William Fung Foundation welcomed the Fung Scholars who travelled all the way to Shanghai to participate in the Leadership Conference, and Dr Victor Fung, Group Chairman of Li & Fung Group, Chairman of Victor and William Fung Foundation, gave an introduction on Entrepreneurship and concluding remarks.
The Conference was attended by over 70 Fung Scholars and guests. Same as last year, live webcast facility was arranged and webcast audience could pose questions on-line. The sharing on the success of the two speakers and their experiences were inspiring and received active responses from Fung Scholars during the Q&A sessions. Dr Victor Fung, Mr and Mrs Po Chung, Ms Pamela Chen, Senior Vice President of Li & Fung Trading Service Shanghai Co., Ltd, Mr Larry King, Consultant of Li & Fung (1937) and Dr. Eden Woon, Managing Director of Toys LiFung (Shanghai) Ltd also took the opportunity to mingle with the Fung Scholars during the lunch. After lunch, an introduction of Li & Fung Group was made by Ms Pamela Chen, followed by a tour of its showroom. Each participant received the book “Competing in a Flat World” written by Dr Victor K Fung, Dr William Fung and Prof Yoram (Jerry) Wind.
